Americans serving in German Military?

Actually there is a student at my school has to go to Germany to fulfill his dad's enlistment time. His dad happen to miss 2 years of service when he move to the U.S. i thought that was pretty far fetch but he really did move to Germany after graduation. You can just simply quit being a American citizen by just pledge your loyalty to another country.
