Theologians, what do you think about desert locusts?

I don't really think that locusts mean anything of significance in this day and age. If you've ever seen a locust storm, there are hundreds, thousands of locusts all coming at once; it can be quite a crazy sight. That said, today, we would look at this occurrence and try to find a plausible cause for this to happen (weather, water, wind, etc.).
