Should I start a semi-long distance relationship?

I have known him for two months and live 2 hours away from him. Due to his fraternity affiliations my friends keep advising me that it is not a good idea to start a relationship with him. His fraternity is known for their craziness, and highly ual nature. Although he is part of this organization, he is a very sweet guy. He is also very hard working (he has two jobs), but his car is currently not working. If we were to see each other I would have to make the effort to go visit him every time.
